I listened to The Pina Colada Song on the way to work today, word for word. I mean I really listened to the story.
At the end, they are all "oh ha ha, ah me, it's YOU! " chuckle chuckle giggle.
Let me just say that if this scenario happened to my husband and me, a huge fight would ensue.
"What the f? Why the hell are you placing personal ads looking to screw someone? Pina coladas my ass"
"Well, what about YOU?? You just did the same thing and I caught you!"
"Oh, well, uh, no you didn't. I only did this to see if I could trick YOU into responding, and you FAILED the test!"
"why are you testing me???"
etc.
At least that's how things would happen in my dysfunctional world. That wouldn't make for as good of a song though. :)

I sure hope the absence of comments on this post isn't because we're busy checking on the identifiability of our online personals . . .
I always thought this song was pretty unrealistic, at least among my circle of friends. Still, it gets at the heart of cheating: "Escape from your boring/stressful, everyday life!" the ads shout; "Replace the humdrum with the exotic," right down to the tropical drink.
Here's a different take on the dynamic, from Indexed.
I think the absence of comments is b/c most people don't know what the hell I'm talking about. It takes a warped mind to understand a warped mind. Hello TG! :)
I took a very pessimistic view of this song, actually. The optimistic view is that you don't need to look far for you your true love, for they are more than likely right there beside you. Need to look at your links now...
ha - what a great blog! I am jealous of the creativity, but can appreciate it. :)
Yeah, I'd just stumbled across that blog the same day as I saw this post, actually.
I know that "the optimistic view" was supposed to be the point of the song, but I think it may be just a little too "Wizard of Oz" for me!
And hey, who you callin' warped? I mean, I resemble that remark!
